Author Bio

My name should have been Charlotte Emily Kate. That was the plan, but when I was born my mother had a momentary lapse in judgement and called me  ’Dulcinea’ (with an excessive number of middle names to boot). With such a literary name what choice did I have but to aspire to be a writer (or a Princess). Had I been called Charlotte Emily Kate then perhaps I would have chosen a slightly more sensible impossible dream to quest for.
I am a member of the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and am currently working on two YA novels and a short book for tweens.

I have ten short stories published or due for publication in 2009/ 2010 including two for the Dragontales (Wyvern Publications). One for a teen horror anthology Scream (Bridge House LLP), one for a children’s Christmas assembly read anthology An Advent Calendar for Children  (Bridge House LLP) and one for a supernatural anthology [name TBA] (Rebel Books LLP). Some of my short stories are also in the September , October and November issues of Knowonder - a US child literacy magazine. 

My Children’s Book Writing
I am currently editing my semi-fictional book for Young Adults called Blood and Clay which is based on the lives of the Pendle Witches and is due for publication in mid 2010. I am also working on a book for tweens called Blood Neck Head Cheese Soup  and a supernatural horror for Young Adults called the Wendigo Wars. In early 2010 I will be editing a book for Wyvern Publications called Mertales.  

I am also currently working on a few ongoing projects with my writing partner Boo Irwin.

Critique Groups

I attend the Manchester/Chester SCBWI crit groups so if you do too I will see you there!

Adult Non-Fiction & Ghost Writing

In addition to ghost writing ebooks, training material, books for print and articles, I have worked as a contracted Feature Writer for website Suite 101 where I have a monthly readership of over 17,000 readers. I have most recently written a series of interviews with authors and people in the world of literature to also publish on Suite101. Elsewhere on the web I have  worked as an editor and writer for child nutrition website Foodie Mama, and havea writer’s and illustrator’s forum for newbies and professionals called Pen and Palette which can be reached from the top to this website.
